How a Terner bathroom comes together

01 · Substrate

Laser-mapped, then levelled.

We map every wall before the first tile. Large format is unforgiving; the substrate has to be within 3 mm over 3 metres.

02 · Waterproofing

Photographed before it disappears.

Full-system membrane, sealed corners, flood-tested pan. You get the photo report the same evening.

03 · Setting

Set, mitred, honed.

Niche edges cut at 45°. Joints held at 2 mm. Lippage under one millimetre, checked with a 600 mm straightedge.

04 · Light

Then we turn the lights on.

Integrated LED under the niche and the floating shelf — because a surface this flat deserves raking light.

Asked before every project.

Do mitred edges chip?

A knife-sharp mitre can. Ours are cut at 45°, then given a 1–2 mm micro-bevel and hand-honed with diamond pads. On porcelain we use deformable adhesive and, where a corner will see traffic, an epoxy-reinforced edge. That is the difference between a cut and a finished mitre.

How long does a bathroom take?

Tile work on a typical ensuite — shower walls, floor, niches — takes 3–5 working days after waterproofing has cured. We fix the dates in the contract.

Do you supply tile?

Our pricing is for labour. We install tile you love from any showroom — or source it through our trade accounts at Olympia, Sarana and slab galleries, at trade pricing.

What deposit do you take?

Ten percent to book your dates. The balance is paid by milestones — after waterproofing, after setting, after your walk-through. Never for work you can't see.

What does the warranty cover?

Five years on wet-area workmanship: waterproofing, bond, grout, mitres. Two years on all other work. It's a signed document you receive at handover.

A bathroom fails behind the tile, years later. So we photograph every membrane, every sealed corner, and send it before the first tile goes on.

Niche edges, curbs and benches cut at 45° and hand-honed. Trim is available on request — we'll tell you honestly where it's the better choice.

How long will my bathroom be out of use?

Tile work runs 3–5 working days after the membrane has cured. We schedule around your plumber and glass installer so the whole room is back in 2–3 weeks.

Can you work with my designer's drawings?

That's our preferred way to work. Send elevations and tile schedules; we return a fixed quote with every detail called out.

What about a curbless shower?

Yes — see Signature Details. It adds a floor recess and a linear drain; we quote it as its own line so you see exactly what it costs.

The tile industry has written standards. Most homeowners have never seen them. Here they are — next to what we hold ourselves to.

Lippage: what's allowed vs. what we set.

Lippage is the step you feel between two tiles. Standards allow more of it than you'd think.
